Your mum and dad have been waiting for you for the longest time, and now here you are — ten tiny fingers, ten tiny toes, and a whole life ahead of you.

A little wish for you

Sleep softly, small one, new to the light,
the world held its breath and turned the right way;
a whole family gathered to say goodnight,
then couldn't stop watching you sleep through the day.

Grow slow if you like — there's no rush at all,
each yawn is a wonder, each stretch a surprise.
Whatever you dream of, however you're small,
you're already home in a hundred glad eyes.

And whenever you wobble, whatever you do,
look up — we'll be here, and we'll always adore you.
